Today in History: Wings Acquire Enforcer From The Blues
Norwood made his mark in the NHL despite issues in his offensive play, with toughness, grit, and reliable defensive play.
He brought some physicality to the blue line that Detroit desperately needed in that time.
Today, the Wings would need a player like Norwood on the lineup. Some grit and toughness could go a long way in Detroit.
In 503 NHL games, Norwood tallied 1099 penalty minutes and 211 points. He added 171 PIMS and 28 points in 65 playoff games.
As for Larry Trader, he showed a lot of promise at the beginning of his career, but never reached the 100 NHL game mark, despite playing for the Wings, Blues, and Montreal Canadiens.
That promising start didn't last. Trader played just 15 games before being sent back to the OHL's London Knights. It was the beginning of a stop-and-start pro career that saw him bounce between the NHL and AHL for most of the decade.
Trader did have success in the minors. He put up back-to-back 50-point seasons in the AHL and even won the Calder Cup in 1986.
Stay tuned to know more about what shaped the Red Wings franchise and what we can learn from that going into the next season.
