Official announcement from the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings on their longtime rivalry
An official announcement from the Colorado Avalanche involving the Detroit Red Wings is drawing criticism online.
The NHL offseason drags long enough for fans to start missing even the small stuff, and teams seem to feel it too.
The Colorado Avalanche have been filling the summer void with something a little different online.
Since early in the offseason, the Avs' social team has been rolling out a series of haikus dedicated to various opponents.
This week, the team posted something about the Wings.
Avs Get Criticized For Post About The Red Wings
Between 1996 and 2002, Detroit and Colorado combined for five Stanley Cups and met in the Western Conference Final three times.

Of course, such posts are sure to attract comments and replies from fans of both organizations.
Here are a few comments we spotted online:
With former team captains Joe Sakic and
Steve Yzerman now holding important positions for their former teams, it looks like a waste to see both teams in different conferences.
Had it been made differently, both teams would have faced off more often in the season, which would've contributed to the rivalry built in the nineties.
But of course, with the Wings in the East, more rivalries are slowly growing. It won't be long before multiple crucial games against division opponents like the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers, or Toronto Maple Leafs ignite new rivalries.
It appears most teams in the East will compete for a playoff spot, and even though the Wings won't get to play often against the Avs, there should be plenty of great games to watch next season.
