Detroit Red Wings fans cancel their subscriptions over newest firings

The Detroit Red Wings offseason has kicked off with nothing but drama, as not only is GM Steve Yzerman taking heat, but after Trevor Thompson's firing from FanDuel Sports Network, fans are irate.
In 2025-2026, Detroit Red Wings broadcasts will look different. A new cast will take hold as the team has decided to part ways with Trevor Thompson. With John Keating's retirement, the team will have to decide who will take the reins.
With attrition reaching unbearable levels, fans are opting to cancel their subscriptions instead of putting up with the mess that is the Detroit Red Wings.
A cursory glance over these changes spells doom for FanDuel Sports Network, who lose a seven-time Emmy winner in Trevor Thompson. In 2020, he also won the Ty Tyson Award for Excellence in Detroit-area Sports broadcasting.
He also earned a spot in the Dresden, Ontario, sports Hall of Fame in 2025.
You have to wonder how badly the integrity of the Red Wings brand has been damaged not only by the drama with Steve Yzerman, but the turnover in the broadcast booth.
Thompson, the inaugural Bruce Huff Award Winner has worked in Detroit for the past 25 years of his career.
He covered not only the Detroit Red Wings but the Detroit Tigers, too. Fans can still listen to him talk shop, but instead of finding him on Red Wings Broadcasts, they'll have to go another route as he's co-hosting Bleav in Lions, with Lions defensive back Glover Quin.
Fan have every right to be indignant with a team that doesn't listen to them, and whose GM is acting irrationally.
