The Red Wings have been linked to Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo despite already having both Petr Mrazek and Cam Talbot under contract for next year.

The Red Wings have goaltenders Petr Mrazek and Cam Talbot under contract for next year, and the expectation from GM Steve Yzerman is that they will be his duo while highly-touted goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa continues to get more seasoning with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
But because of the rising GAA of Mrazek over the years, combined with his unreliability to stay healthy, the Red Wings could also consider other options.
They've suggested to be in the running to potentially land divisional foe Boston Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, who is coming off his 1st year with the team after being acquired from the Ottawa Senators.
The Senators traded Korpisalo to the Bruins last summer after a poor 1st year with the team after inking a 5-year deal to be their long term solution in net. In return for Korpisalo, the Senators received Linus Ullmark and immediately signed him to a long term extension.
Ullmark and the Senators are in the playoffs, currently in the 1st Battle of Ontario against the Toronto Maple Leafs since 2004; Korpisalo and the Bruins imploded down the stretch and missed the postseason completely.
The main reason why a Korpisalo-to-Detroit move is likely unable to work is because of his considerable AAV (average annual value) of $5 million; the Bruins would have to be convinced to pick up at least half of it.
But the Red Wings have rolled with a trio of goaltenders the last pair of years; they had Ville Husso, James Reimer and Alex Lyon on the roster in 2023-24, while also having Lyon, Cam Talbot, and Mrazek this year (after the latter's acquisition from the Chicago Blackhawks in March).
Lyon will not be back with the Red Wings, having completed his 2 year deal; he'll be playing elsewhere next year.
