GM Steve Yzerman must be giddy, as his 4th overall pick of the 2020 NHL Draft, Lucas Raymond, will be headed to the Olympics in Milan-Cortina in 2026.
Lucas Raymond has been a reliable top-six winger in the Detroit Red Wings, scoring 27 goals and 80 points this year.
His performance has given him the first to be named to Sweden's roster for the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, Italy.
The former 4th overall pick has been a staple in the lineup, flanking captain
Dylan Larkin, and being an offensive weapon when others falter.
He'll now have the honor of suiting up for his home country in Italy, in a competition that is sure to be fierce, as international play always is.
This isn't the only time Raymond's suited up for Sweden, as he wore the Tre Kronor for the 2025 World Championships, posting 11 points (5-6) in 10 games to earn a Bronze Medal this year.
Raymond will join an envoy of NHL players joining their countrymen in Olympic competition, something that hasn't happened since 2014.
The 2026 Games are scheduled to be held Feb. 6-22 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
Great things have happened to former Swedish hockey players, and Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and Sweden won a gold medal against Finland in Italy in 2006.
Lucas Raymond could be the leader who secures a gold medal for himself and the star-studded lineup.
