Detroit Red Wings newest acquisition quickly leaves the organization: It's temporary
One of the Detroit Red Wings' newest acquisitions is temporarily leaving the organization during training camp.
Steve Yzerman made a few interesting additions to the Detroit Red Wings lineup during the offseason. Although people are mostly excited to see
John Gibson in action between the pipes, another player will make his first strides as a Wing shortly: James van Riemsdyk.
James van Riemsdyk Temporarily Leaves The Team
Some things are bigger than hockey, and the Detroit Red Wings forward James van Riemsdyk had to step away from his team's training camp for such a reason.
Indeed, after reports confirmed he wasn't on the roster, the Grind Line Podcast announced that he had to step away for "positive family reasons":
Expected to take on a role on the team's top line alongside captain
Dylan Larkin and top young forward
Lucas Raymond, van Riemsdyk will be put in a great position to succeed right from the start of the next season.
Getting some reps in will be crucial for the veteran to build chemistry.
Fortunately, considering it's good news, he should be able to return soon, even before the start of the preseason.
During his career, the forward took part in 1,082 games for the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, and Columbus Blue Jackets since 2009. He scored 665 points, including 327 goals, in 16 NHL seasons.
Stay tuned for further updates regarding van Riemsdyk's status as we get closer to the start of the preseason.
