Detroit Red Wings Projected to Acquire $27.6M Star Defenseman in Free Agency
The Detroit Red Wings are in big need of a strong player on their defensive end, and experts think they might sign a top defenseman when he becomes a free agents this off-season.
On PuckPedia, a prediction has been set that the Red Wings will sign
Jakob Chychrun to a seven-year contract worth $8.25 million each year, totaling $57.75 million.
Chychrun is finishing his current six-year contract with the
Washington Capitals, which is at $4.6 million per year.
During this summer, he'll likely get a much bigger salary, and not too many teams will be able to afford it, that is where the Red Wings, with a projected $22M cap space, come into play.
Chychrun is having his best season to date with the Capitals, in 62 games this season, he has 18 goals and 24 assists, tallying up to 42 points.
If the Red Wings sign Chychrun this off-season, he could be one of their top defensemen alongside
Moritz Seider, and replace
Jeff Petry.
The Red Wings are expected to have a little over $22 million available to spend in the offseason.
Chychrun Might Stay With the Capitals
When asked about signing a new contract, Chychrun told RMNB,
«My agent has, yeah. I don't want to say too much, but we haven't talked a lot yet. It's just the beginning.»
Chychrun currently plays on the Capitals' second defensive pair with Trevor van Riemsdyk. He appears happy in Washington, but will they be able to afford his new deal is the true question.
«We love it here,» Chychrun said. «The team is great. We're playing well, and it's been fun. It didn't take long to feel at home Everyone's working together, and it's been clicking since the start of the season.»
Chychrun has played more than 500 games in the NHL during his career, and would be the perfect middle-aged fit for the Red Wings defensive group.
