The Detroit Red Wings organization is reportedly set to acquire a former NHL'er looking to make a comeback to the league.
According to a new report from RG.org, the Red Wings could be in a great position to sign a former NHLer who will be trying to make a return to the league next year: Maxime Comtois.
After five years in the Anaheim Ducks organization, Comtois finally left North America last year and moved to Russia to play in the KHL, with Dynamo Moscow during the 2024-25 season.
In the KHL, he scored 50 points in 62 games, showing he can still contribute to a team at a high level.
Here's what he said about finding his rhythm in Russia, and the idea of coming back to the NHL, in a recent interview:
"I felt like I got a second wind."
"I've always said I want to return to the NHL, and this season I did everything possible to make that happen. Hockey had become just a job for me in North America, but here, it became my passion again."
Multiple sources confirmed that Comtois had many offers on the table, both in the KHL and the NHL.
In the KHL, Dynamo Moscow showed interest in bringing him back, but many NHL teams also made him offers, including the Red Wings and the Bruins.
Comtois' situation will be interesting to follow, as he could bring a lot of grit, energy, and skills to a team next season. If not the Red Wings or the Bruins, other teams are likely to make him offers, and unless there's a massive turnaround, he should be back in the NHL next season.
Stay tuned for further details.
