There was a reoccurring trend at this year's season-exit interviews for the Detroit Red Wings, and they appeared to be subtle shots at general manager Steve Yzerman and his lack of retooling at this past NHL trade deadline.

Despite the injuries suffered right before the halfway point in the season, Yzerman opted to only complete one trade at the deadline, acquiring familiar face in goaltender Petr Mrazek, and veteran winger Craig Smith from the Chicago Blackhawks.
At this years season-exit interviews, Red Wings players, including captain Dylan Larkin voiced displeasure in the lack of support they received throughout their rough stretch of injuries at a crucial point in the season.
«It was hard that we didn't do anything,» Larkin said. «And then I felt the group kind of - we didn't gain any momentum from the trade deadline and guys were kind of down about it. It'd be nice to add something and bring a little bit of a spark on the ice, and maybe a morale boost as well.»

The Red Wings went on a four-game losing streak heading into the trade deadline, which significantly took a toll on the team.
Patrick Kane also sent a subtle message to Steve Yzerman, in hopes he will acquire talent via free agency this off-season.
«Hopefully over the summer you see some things that make our team better, and you add that up [players returning from injuries] and it should be soon [the playoffs]
This past trade deadline blunder by Yzerman was partially excused by the media and pundits online due to the price tags for players being quite high, but there will be no excuse during this summer's free agency.
