Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has revealed in a recent interview that the management group has officially decided on a coaching change, and two members of the organization have been fired.

In the upcoming season where players have vocally stated they're ready to make the playoffs finally, changea are needing to snap the routine of a nine-year playoff drought.

Detroit Red Wings fire two coaches

We are now witnessing other changes take place before training camp kicks off, and that is the firing of two coaching staff members to improve Todd McLellan's coaching staff.
Alex Westlund, who began his role with the Red Wings in 2022, alongside Phil Osaer, who oversaw the team's goaltending scouting since 2019, have both been relieved of their duties.
Yzerman's now due to fill the void of two vacant positions, revealing he's in the proccess of doing that.
«the last position we intend to fill,» Yzerman said, indicating they won't seek to replace assistant coach Jay Varady - and that Phil Osaer, the team's head of goaltending scouting and development, will leave the organization «to go into an opportunity in the business sector.»

Red Wings part ways with goaltender Alex Lyon

In a surprise move in free agency, Alex Lyon has been signed by the Buffalo Sabres, just days after Yzerman revealed he was working on a contract with the 32-year old goaltender.
"Yzerman said he has remained in contact with goaltender Alex Lyon's agent and plans to circle back with that camp. He said both sides expressed interest earlier in the offseason in Lyon coming back, and that the team will consider a third goaltender."

Rookie goaltender Sebastian Cossa will not be starting in the NHL, as Yzerman believes he needs more time in the AHL.
"Needs more time in the American League, and we're counting on him to play well.»

With several changes underway in Detroit, we will provide further updates once the coaching hirings are made.
