Edmonton Oilers acquire Detroit Red Wings' top goaltending prospect in intriguing trade pitch
The Edmonton Oilers acquired the Detroit Red Wings' top goaltending prospect in an intriguing trade pitch posted online.
Over the past two seasons, the Edmonton Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup finals despite big holes in their lineup.
The same holes also explain why they lost twice to the Florida Panthers.
Despite being able to count on
Connor McDavid and
Leon Draisaitl, two of the best players in the world, the blue line and the goaltending unit needed some serious upgrades.
A trade between the Oilers and the Red Wings was proposed in a recent report.
Four years since being drafted 15th overall by the Wings, Cossa has only taken part in one NHL game, and with
John Gibson coming in as number one, it wouldn't be surprising to see him trade either Cossa or Cam Talbot.
In this proposal, Cossa is the one being sent to Edmonton in return for a bottom-six forward and a veteran defenseman.
Considering how Yzerman usually holds on tight to his young players, seeing him trade the promising goalie for an underwhelming package would be very surprising.
Although Yzerman does like his aging defenseman, and Brett Kulak fits in that category.
Cossa, 22, took part in 41 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL last season and one in the NHL. He had a 21-15-5 record, with a 0.911 SV% and 2.45 GAA in the AHL. He allowed two goals in 14 shots from the Buffalo Sabres in his only NHL start.
