It's been reported by NHL Insider Cam Robinson that the Edmonton Oilers are looking towards acquiring the goalie of the future in the Detroit Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa, or Trey Augustine.

GM Stan Bowman of the Edmonton Oilers has a mandate to improve the situation in the Oilers' net.
And according to Cam Robinson, Stan Bowman has recently completed a call with Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman, that discussed a trade of a goaltender.
The duo of Calvin Pickard and Stuart Skinner was unable to deliver a Stanley Cup to Oil Country.
Now, Bowman must shift gears and find the Oilers' goalie of the future, and it appears that it's within an Original Six team, the Detroit Red Wings.
NHL Insider Cam Robinson would appear on Sekeres & Price and reveal that GM Stan Bowman covets Trey Augustine.
But according to reports, the Red Wings plan on keeping Augustine, despite a lack of an ELC with the prospect.

Sebastian Cossa, The Oilers Next #1?

That leaves another option for GM Stan Bowman in Sebastian Cossa, who could be a long-term solution for the Oilers.
«They're looking a little more long-term, they've got their field of vision a little bit wider,» Robinson said of the Oilers' goalie search. «I was told that they have contacted Detroit. I believe the first person they asked about was Trey Augustine, and I think that was a non-starter.

«They have a six-foot-six, six-foot-seven, former first-rounder in Sebastian Cossa sitting there.»

Indeed, Oilers GM Bowman called Detroit GM Steve Yzerman involving a trade for one of Cossa or Augustine.
For the Oilers, a prospect like Cossa denotes an ideal of long-term development, despite the urgency to win now. You'd think Bowman would be after someone else who's available.
While the Oilers want Augustine, the Red Wings don't want to trade him.
Cossa has appeared to be a promising prospect for the Red Wings' future. A 15th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, has ended his 2024-25 season with a .911 SV%.
«If I were Detroit, I'd wanna get a first-rounder back,» Stauffer said. «I mean, they drafted him with a mid-first round pick. I would think that would be what they kind of be looking for in return, but I have no idea [what Red Wings GM] Steve Yzerman [is thinking].»

For the Red Wings, the team should aim for the Stars when it comes to what they could get in return for Cossa, a former 1st-round pick.
The Oilers have had their eyes set on him before, and Steve Yzerman should take advantage of that fact.
