Steve Yzerman has just unveiled Detroit Red Wings' playoff timeline and fans might be rubbed the wrong way.

The 2025-26 season will be crucial for the Detroit Red Wings. Not only will the organization celebrate its Centennial season, the team will also hope to battle for a playoff spot and ultimately, avoid missing them for the 10th straight year.
Today, General Manager of the team Steve Yzerman talked about a few interesting topics as we enter training camp.
He made a comment about the plan for this season that raised many eyebrows.

'I'm not trying to build a 'dynasty'-Steve Yzerman

There are a lot of talented players in Detroit. Yzerman signed top veteran Patrick Kane to another one-year deal, acquired John Gibson between the pipes, and several young players are expected to hit another level in their development.
Putting a lid on players' aspirations isn't the right move here, considering the state of the team.
In his press conference, Yzerman stated he wants to build a team that can compete for a Cup and reiterated that the process takes time, showing little urgency for a general manager in his position.
Here's what he had to say:
"Chris and I have spoken going back to hiring me that it's going to be a long time. We're gonna be patient. We're going to let our young players develop. And we're going to rely heavily on the draft. Is it 4, is it 5, is it 10? How many years is it supposed to take? Chris and I have spoken, and he's understood the process and understands where we're at."

"I'm not trying to build a dynasty, if that ever happens we will be thrilled. I'm trying to build a team that competes for a Stanley Cup and can win a Stanley Cup. I'm going to do what I think is right. Each draft and trade deadline my goal is to improve our team."

Fans have been very vocal about wanting to see the team back in the playoffs for years now.
Rebuilding a team takes a long time, but after seeing many organizations developing faster than the Wings, patience is wearing thin in the fanbase.
After all this time, seeing the GM lower expectations entering such an important year is another tough hit for Detroit Red Wings fans.
