Detroit Red Wings are in desperate need to ensure an extremely busy summer, due to the fact their last decade of contention has never gone further than the NHL's regular season.
That being said, lucky enough for Red Wings fans, the organization has undergone an acquisition and departure filled postseason so far into the NHL's offseason.
And this Original Six franchise is seemingly no where near done their offseason moves, as an NHL insider, Brad Galli, announced on Wednesday, July 2nd, that a former Red Wings defenseman has been traded in a last-minute deal.
Former Detroit Red Wings defenseman, Jeff Petry, signs with the Florida Panthers
During the beginning of this year's free agency, the Florida Panthers' general manager, Bill Zito, quickly decided to add talent to the organizations defensive depth.
Jeff Petry, a Michigan native, will be enjoying the sunshine in the south, rather than residing in the frigid temperatures of the Northern US climate.
As NHL insider, Brad Gralli, reported and confirmed that the Florida Panthers signed Petry to a one-year deal, after his $6.25M average annual salary (AAV) deal in Detroit expires.
«Jeff is a skilled, puck-moving defenseman who can contribute quality veteran leadership to our lineup,» stated Zito. «We are excited that he will join us to supplement our exciting core.»
Former Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry is heading out of Detroit, signing a one-year deal with the Panthers.
As Jeff Petry begins a new era of his NHL career, Detroit Red Wings fans are wishing him a positive future.
