Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Lyon has moved on from the organization in an interview after a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Lyon
has found a
new home with the Buffalo Sabres.
On July 1st, he'd sign a two-year, $1.5 million average annual value (AAV) deal with General Manager Kevyn Adams.
Lyon would be forgotten by Detroit during free agency, a place where he played 74 games of his NHL career.
He finished his time in Detroit with a 2.96 GAA and a .901 save percentage. While this was not a terrible stat line, he'd be part of the teardown in Detroit. Letting him walk in free agency.
Following his exit, the team would fire the rest of Derek Lalonde's staff and hire new coaches in order to improve the goaltending.
He'd have a nice showing during preseason play against the Columbus Blue Jackets and would pull off a 2-1 victory over the rebuilding Metropolitan Division team.

His
interview had an air of confidence, as the Buffalo Sabres were able to put the screws to the Blue Jackets.
The former Red Wings goaltender wouldn't be so busy during the 2nd period, and he mentioned that despite the 1-1 tie during the game, he worked on remaining mentally tough during a slow period.
Lyon spoke near the end of the interview, went through the mill of typical hockey stereotypes, speaking highly of his defensive core, sticking to good habits, and getting pucks on the net.
It seems he's already moving on from the Red Wings, as the Sabres have offered greener pastures where he can truly show the NHL what he's made of.
«It was difficult for a minute, but part of being a successful professional and a successful goalie is being able to get through mentally, things like that,» Lyon said when asked about parting ways with the Red Wings. «I've been the third goalie on the roster for my whole career. It's just something that you got to deal with.»
Lyon finished the net with 13 saves, on 14 shots against, with a .929 save percentage.
