James van Riemsdyk shut down the critics of Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin in a recent interview.

The 37-year-old veteran James van Riemsdyk signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings during the offseason but had to wait before joining the team during camp.

James van Riemsdyk steps in to defend Dylan Larkin in new interview

Joining the Red Wings during the summer was a no-brainer for James van Riemsdyk.
The opportunity was already an interesting one, but something helped him make his decision: the idea of playing with Larkin.
He revealed in a recent interview that Larkin is an "amazing captain," that he can lead the team, and that he was very excited to play with him when he signed with Detroit.
In his own words:
"He's an amazing captain. The way he sets the tone. He brings everybody into the fight, the way he plays. He'll stick his nose into anything. He was definitely a guy, when I signed in Detroit, that I was excited to get to play a full season with him..."

Listen to his full interview here:
As of now, van Riemsdyk hasn't had a chance to play on the top line with Larkin. But if rookie Emmitt Finnie shows signs of fatigue and/or can't do the job anymore, the veteran winger could be a great option for head coach Todd McLellan.
