Trade reportedly underway with the Edmonton Oilers: Steve Yzerman can cash in on his goaltender

A trade between the Edmonton Oilers and the Detroit Red Wings could get underway soon, as the Wings have a key piece that the Oilers could be interested in.
The Edmonton Oilers would have won a Stanley Cup already if they had had a better goaltender in the past years. Jack Campbell and Stuart Skinner cost the team greatly.
Adding a top goaltender is no easy feat: the team is stuck under the salary cap and teams who have them tend to keep them.
Right before the start of the season, the Oilers acquired Connor Ingram from the Utah Mammoth, but it is still believed the team will need to add a goalie if they want to win a Stanley Cup.
The Detroit Red Wings have such a player, and a trade could happen soon.
Red Wings And Oilers To Complete A Trade Soon?
According to a new report, the Oilers and the Red Wings were linked on the trade market for a potential deal involving the Wings' goalie Cam Talbot.
The Red Wings added John Gibson to their goalie unit during the offseason, and with Trey Augustine set to join the team next year, the organization has a surplus at that position.
Even if John Gibson's debut with the Wings didn't go well, after he allowed five goals on 13 shots to the Montreal Canadiens in the Wings' home opener last week, it is believed he can be the team's number one goalie, making Cam Talbot expendable for Steve Yzerman.
Talbot could be the missing piece in Edmonton, but for a trade to happen, the Oilers' General Manager Stan Bowman would need to part ways with an interesting asset.
"Talbot makes a ton of sense as the stop gap for this year only. The 38-year-old is a pending free agent, he's on a reasonable contract at $2.5 million AAV, and he's well aware of what it's like to play in Edmonton when the Oilers are both good, and bad. Talbot's been around the block and could give the Oil a veteran presence to calm the waters when needed."
In Detroit, Yzerman would likely consider any offers involving a top-four defenseman.
Talbot has a year left on his $2,500,000 AAV deal, making him an even more attractive target for the Oilers.
