A league executive has confirmed that a two-time Stanley Cup champion is available for trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins

The Detroit Red Wings could find a way to upgrade their forward core in a trade.
According to a report from a league executive, the Pittsburgh Penguins are open to trading forward Bryan Rust, a former two-time Stanley Cup champion.
Rust has been a prominent player for the Pittsburgh Penguins throughout their modern history and helped the team achieve the ultimate prize twice in his career.
He's played 669 games in the NHL, all of them with the Penguins, and has scored 465 points (215-250).
Though, according to NHL Insider Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen, should General Manager Kyle Dubas complete a trade involving Bryan Rust with another team, they should expect to pay a high value for the veteran.
It looks as if Rust is considered a part of the core, which they attribute a higher-than-normal value to.

What would it cost the Detroit Red Wings to acquire forward Bryan Rust of the Pittsburgh Penguins in a trade?

Last season with the Penguins, Rust scored 31 goals and 65 points as a top-six player in the team's lineup.
As a former 80th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2010 NHL Draft, you'd expect him to be a bargain bin option, right? Well, you might be wrong.
That «sky-high» price for Rust could well be a guaranteed first-round pick and a young player who projects to be able to fill Rust's role within a season or two.

That is according to PGH Hockey Now, who believe that a 1st-round pick and a top-six forward could replace his production in the lineup. All part of what the Red Wings would have to consider giving up for Rust.
As a former Stanley Cup champion, he's been a part of two teams that found a way to win and could end up being a leader in Detroit should they see fit to part ways with a 1st-round pick and a top-six forward.
The Red Wings could also bring a hometown Pontiac, Michigan-born forward home.
Rust is an intriguing trade target for the Red Wings and could push them into consideration as a contender.
