Major development in Detroit and it appears a Red Wings defenseman is out the door

The Detroit Red Wings haven't had the best of luck recently with on-going injuries erupting left and right, and unfortunately, Todd McLellan has just announced an update on veteran defenseman, Jeff Petry, and it is not looking good.
The vet endured a terrible upper-body injury on January 2, 2025, concluding in the defenseman's absence from the Red Wings' lineup until last week, on March 24, 2025.
However, Petry's return wasn't quite what the organization anticipated.
Detroit's head coach, Todd McLellan just announced an unfortunate statement regarding the veteran comeback:
«Tough, tough task for Petey,» McLellan told the media after practice Monday. «His injury didn't allow him to skate at all, and, you know, at his spot in his career and the number of games and miles on that body, skating is something that's real important. And obviously he didn't get to skate enough. We're trying to get him going.»
Despite McLellan seeming to lack sympathy for Petry following such a brutal injury, the organization is currently in a tight race for postseason contention, and all player's are in dire need to be at their peak potential.
Although Detroit's head coach expressed his concerns regarding the defenseman's recovery, he also touched base on is ability to provide solid defensive plays.
McLellan continued:
«I liked his positioning, I liked his stick,» McLellan said. «I liked his thought process on defending. Even offensively, you could see he was using his shot. It's just the skating part that will have to come. We don't have time. Our whole team doesn't have time. So we take what we can get and hope it gets better every day.»
We can hope this is just a speed bump in the veteran's career, however, McLellan's perspective on the 37-year old is quite concerning.
