The Detroit Red Wings have been linked to the Edmonton Oilers as they intensify their search for a new goalie, names include Trey Augustine and Sebastian Cossa.
The Edmonton Oilers and GM Stan Bowman continue to intensify the hunt for a goalie.
According to recent reports, they've been linked to the Detroit Red Wings, as they covet two of the team's prospects.
On the Sekeres and Price Podcast, they'd mention both Trey Augustine and Sebastian Cossa.
Neither of them has made the NHL, but out of the two of Trey Augustine and Sebastian Cossa, Cossa is NHL-ready.
The Cost To Acquire Sebastian Cossa
Trey Augustine is a former 41st overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, and could've chosen to turn pro, but instead returned to Michigan State University.
Last season, he finished the year with a record of 19-7-4 and a .924 save percentage.
Sebastian Cossa has found a new home in the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. He finished 2024-25 with a record of 21-15-5 and a .911 save percentage.
Cossa, if he is available, would be an upgrade on a duo that took the Oilers to the playoffs and the Stanley Cup finals, but was unable to finish it.
If they go the Cossa route, it looks as if they think they'll be contending again sooner than expected.
The cost is one that has us truly pondering what route Yzerman would take, but we would expect a prospect and a draft pick. Maybe Beau Akey, for example?
While they could fetch Sam O'Reilly, for Cossa as well, in a one-for-one swap.
He could end up solving the Oilers' goaltending woes, which have extended beyond the past two seasons.
