NHL insiders drops major report on Mitch Marner landing with surprise Atlantic Division team
The Athletic's Max Bultman predicts that Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner will ink a $91 million deal with the Detroit Red Wings and GM Steve Yzerman.
NHL Insider Max Bultman believes that the Red Wings will make a splash in the postseason.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner certain to exit the organization, there will be a bidding war for the superstar.
One of those teams will be the Detroit Red Wings and GM Steve Yzerman, who could ink the 102-point forward to a massive, seven-year deal.
The number Bultman brings up is quite specific, at $13 million a year, for 7 years.
If the Red Wings do decide to make a contract offer to Mitch Marner, not only would they weaken a divisional rival, but they could also be poised to make a run in the playoffs next season.
Something GM Steve Yzerman desperately needs to happen in order to stay off the hot seat.
This past season was the ninth season without a trip to the playoffs, and Yzerman's sixth season without a trip as GM.
A player like Marner could provide a jolt of offense, which has been missing up and down the lineup, even with additions like Vladimir Tarasenko, who put up a disappointing 33-point season in Hockeytown.
Marner recently completed his $10.9 million deal, which paid him a total of $65 million.
The former All-Star was part of the Maple Leafs' core four, which could be dismantled in the offseason by Brad Treliving.
