Former Red Wings forward David Booth has chosen to continue his professional hockey career in Australia, playing for the AIHL's Melbourne Ice.
In a strange set of circumstances to report, former Detroit Red Wings forward David Booth is continuing his professional hockey career.
Instead of it being the AHL, ECHL, or another minor hockey league, he's headed down under. Literally.
Sometimes, the truth is stranger than fiction, and that involves a league in Australia called the Australian Ice Hockey League.
You'd think Australia would be too hot, but the league itself is apparently a big deal.
«Massive signing alert! The Melbourne Ice are proud to announce the addition of former NHL 30-goal scorer David Booth to our 2025 AIHL roster!» the Ice said on their Instagram account.
Booth, who played for multiple NHL teams during his career, scored only 30+ goals in one season with the Florida Panthers and would score over twenty twice.
The 40-year-old forward played for the Red Wings near the end of his career in the NHL during the 2017-2018 season.
He'd turn his PTO into a one-year contract, of which he'd play only 28 games with the Red Wings in that timeframe, before heading to Russia to play in the KHL.
Booth has been on a world tour since, stopping in Germany, Hungary, and Norway along the way.
Now he can add Australia, specifically Melbourne, to his list.
Booth played a total of 530 NHL games, scoring 236 points (124 goals, 112 assists).
No word on Booth's AAV in Australia.
