NHL reporter links the Detroit Red Wings to New York Islanders 34-year old veteran
New insight has revealed that the Detroit Red Wings have been linked to a veteran, and it is shocking.
The 2024/25 NHL season has marked the ninth-straight season of the Detroit Red Wings being absent from playoff contention, and if this Original Six team is hoping to break their streak before it hits a decade, some massive changes need to happen.
That being said, there are a number of areas the Detroit Red Wings could address this summer, and with the team seeking strong players this offseason, new insight has unveiled who the organization should be looking at.
A reporter, Max Bultman, of the Athletic, revealed a couple potential top-six options for the Red Wings.
Bultman named the New York Rangers star,
Chris Kreider, as a potential option, however, he was not the only New York player who was mentioned.
NHL reporter links the Detroit Red Wings to New York Islanders veteran, Anders Lee
Veteran forward,
Anders Lee, will become a free agent by the end of the 2025/26 NHL season, and he can still offer incredible gameplay, having accumulated 29 goals and 54 points this past campaign, he may be the type of veteran the organization is in need of right now.
With Lee being a rental, Bultman believes that Detroit could swing a deal with the New York Islanders.
«The other name that comes to mind, also in the New York area, is
Anders Lee. The Islanders are hard to predict because they don't have a GM right now, but in theory, Lee (who has one year left on his contract and is soon to be 35) would add the exact kind of hard offense the Red Wings need,» Bultman wrote.
Despite the organization seeking offense, the team also holds a fair few veterans within their roster.
And both general manager, Steve Yzerman, and head coach, Todd McLellan, both admitting their leadership group is clearly lacking, this could be a gold-mind for the organization.
Lee can undoubtedly fill this role as he has spent the last seven seasons as the captain of the Islanders, where he helped New York make two runs to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2020 and 2021.
With the Red Wings' young stars lacking veteran expertise, adding another leader to the locker room could take this Original Six team to a whole new level, especially with his postseason experience.
