Undrafted NHL goaltender Alexandar Georgiev's career may be over after jumping from club to club in recent years, with a recent demotion to the AHL.
Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev's career may have hit an all-time low, as the Buffalo Sabres player has been demoted to the AHL.
After bouncing around the league playing for the New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, and Buffalo Sabres, this may be it.
He was
waived by the Sabres to assign him to the AHL's Rochester Americans, a daunting prospect for someone who was considered a legitimate backup to
Igor Shesterkin in New York.
Now, according to reports from Hockey News Hub, the goalie could be headed back to the KHL.
303 Game Goaltender Heads to the KHL?
Georgiev has played 303 games in the NHL, split between the San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers, and Colorado Avalanche.
His career totals are as follows: 15 shutouts, 2.98 GAA, 151-108-26, with a save percentage of .903.
These aren't the best statistics, but he could be a serviceable backup in the NHL elsewhere.
That could be in the KHL, where his rights are currently owned by HC Spartak.
He signed
a one-year contract with the Sabres for a total of $825K AAV (average annual value) this postseason.
Georgiev made news in the past for defending his teammates from controversial defenseman Tony DeAngelo.
