Detroit Red Wings longtime NHL veteran forward Patrick Kane will be an unrestricted free agent come July 1st, but will we see an extension with the Detroit Red Wings before then?
During season-exit interviews at the end of last season, the Red Wings forward sounded off on his future in Detroit, and weeks later he and general manager Steve Yzerman came to an agreement on a one-year deal.
This go-around during season-exit interviews Kane confirmed his interest in re-signing with the Detroit Red Wings and revealed interest on both sides (management and his) are open to an extension.
«I think there's definitely some mutual interest in coming back and continuing on here,» Kane said his season-exit interview
At the end of it all, Kane stated that "we'll see what happens", so nothing is set in stone.
Kane's time in Detroit has been nothing but a treat for fans and the organization; the three-time Stanley Cup Champion's wealth of veteran experience has certainly made a large impact on the success that the team has had throughout his time here.
He's arguably the most clutch player on the Red Wings with 13-game winning goals in the last two seasons.
There is one aspect that would make leaving the Red Wings the hardest for Kane, and his son?
«Imagine I took him away from (DeBrincat's son) Archie, he'd be crushed,» Kane said. «But you know, honestly, last year, when we were going through the situation, I said, 'Where do you think your dad should play?' And he said Detroit. He liked it. He enjoyed it. That's an important part of it, right?»
It is a much deeper decision than just deciding if the team is the right fit for him moving forward, but also his families fit in the city of their surroundings.
