Red Wings' sudden equipment change sparks raves in the hockey world for the better
On Little Caesars Arena ice, the Detroit Red Wings will play in their Centennial Season uniform, a homage to the past, which is gaining a lot of love from fans online.
The Detroit Red Wings are 2nd in the Atlantic Division, with a record of 9-5-0.
Tonight they'll face off against their Original Six cousins, the New York Rangers, who are celebrating their
Centennial Season, too.
But unlike the Rangers, the Red Wings are dressed for the moment, as they are playing the game in their special jerseys.
The gloves in particular give it an old school look as the team's uniform pays homage to the Red Wings teams back to the 20s, of which you could see brown gloves regularly in the NHL.
The look has found some fans today online.
The uniform was debuted in September 2025 to fanfare as
the jersey was an amalgamation of the Red Wings' past.
The uniforms, designed by fanatics include:
A tribute to the Detroit Cougars on the front leg of the solid-red pants
Striping along the hem, sleeves and socks to pay tribute to the Falcons uniforms (1930-1932)
Leather-like features, including a diamond-shaped captain patch, and a faux jock tag inscribed with «Established 1926 DETROIT MI»
The first chain-stitch Winged Wheel, introduced in 1932 and used through 1948.
A matte red helmet with a vintage Meijer logo (1957-1966) decal.
It's no wonder they look so good, given how much detail and effort were put into the piece by the Fanatics.
It deserves all the love from Red Wings fans, as they wear them tonight against the New York Rangers.
