The Detroit Red Wings have made a major announcement regarding line-up adjustments, suggesting the organization may be giving up on their postseason appearance.

During the Red Wings' practice this morning in preparation for their game tonight against the Buffalo Sabres, the net was looking a little different.
With a new face taking on the net during today's practice, it has been confirmed that a new goaltender will be starting in goal tonight.
Petr Mrazek, one of the organization's newest members since the NHL trade deadline, will be making his debut tonight and will be starting in goal.
Take a look:

Petr Mrazek was traded from the Chicago Blackhawks on March 7, the NHL trade deadline, and was acquired by the Detroit Red Wings for free (with an outstanding contract cap hit of $4.25 million per season, that expires at the end of the 2025/26 season).
The 33-year old failed to find consistency in net all season with his previous organization. With 33 games played throughout the 2024/25 NHL season, Mrazek has contained underwhelming numbers, with 10 wins, a GAA of 3.46 and a .890 save percentage.
Although this goaltender might seem excited to be the face of Detroit tonight, this may strike as concerning for fans considering his stats this far into the year.
«Petr Mrazek gets 1st start since 2/27/25 and 1st as a Red Wing since 2/18/18 «
For unfortunate circumstances, Mrazek has not been given the opportunity as the starting-goalie for some time now, which should be accounted for by the Detroit Red Wings' organization.
However, Red Wings fans are hopeful that this 33-year old will be able to shine tonight for the sake of his new team's struggles to make it to the playoff position for the first time in 9 years.
While the Red Wings currently stand with a 6-game losing streak and in 6th for the Wild Card division, the organization can't afford another loss.
