The Detroit Red Wings ran into an unknown goaltender last night in Buffalo that broke their five-game winning streak.

Last night, the Detroit Red Wings' winning streak stopped after five games, with the Buffalo Sabres getting the upper hand on the ice to win 4-2.
The Wings had a difficult start to the game and couldn't generate enough momentum to win.
On the other side of the ice, the Sabres had decided to give former Wing Alex Lyon a day off, sending rookie Colten Ellis between the pipes for his first NHL game.

The 25-year-old goalie was unfazed by the moment. He performed well despite the pressure, making 27 saves, including some crucial ones throughout the game.
Notably, he denied Dylan Larkin on a breakaway to help his team remain in the game during the second period:
After the game, Ellis shared some thoughts on his experience, focusing on his teammates' performance and what he did to remain engaged in the game despite not facing many shots early on:
"The boys came out strong, and they were playing so good, and I was kind of like, 'Gee, I need a shot here at some point to get me into it a little bit.

When you're not getting a lot of action, I have other ways to stay engaged, like looking at who else is on the ice for the opposing team, and if they're lefties, righties, who their top guys are."

The Sabres' head coach, Lindy Ruff, also shared some thoughts on the goalie's rookie game:
"He's done a lot of good things in practice, made a lot of good saves, and he's worked extremely hard. I just thought he looked comfortable."

The Wings will try to get back on the right track tonight in Long Island against the New York Islanders.
