Detroit Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman dealt with season-altering news at the latest NHL governors meeting in Detroit.

All NHL General Managers met in Detroit yesterday to discuss multiple topics. With the new Collective Bargaining Agreement signed earlier this summer, teams must start to prepare for the changes that will go down after the next season.
Pierre LeBrun shed light on the changes that will strike the league, including 84-game regular seasons, shortened preseasons, the playoff salary cap, and more.
But a new statement from Eric Engels states that a massive change will go down as soon as the next playoffs.

Bill Daly Confirms Major Change Before Next CBA Kicks In

The GM meeting wrapped up today in Detroit. The NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly opened up about the playoff salary cap, including the "gametime decisions" in the playoffs.
He stated that not all questions have been answered yet, but the playoff salary cap will start this season.
Per Eric Engels:
"With GM/coaches meeting wrapped in Detroit, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed there will be a salary cap in the playoffs this season. The implementation of the playoff cap is still something being ironed out, Daly added.

I asked him if a cap-compliant roster submission must be made to the league hours ahead of a game, if that meant the end of «gametime decisions» in the playoffs; if a team could submit a contingency roster that factors in a gametime decision?

«That is a detail there will obviously be an answer to, but there isn't one yet,» he responded."
Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings want to make the playoffs at all costs. All changes in the League's structure and how the seasons unfold have an impact on the strategies during the regular calendar.
But with all teams facing the same reality, the Wings aren't disadvantaged by any means.
Fans are just hoping to see Yzerman and the coaching staff adjust well, especially ahead of what could be the team's first playoff run in a decade.
