Patrick Kane completes surprising milestone and leads Red Wings to 7-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night, snapping a six-game losing streak which lead to a statement released by the NHL
The Detroit Red Wings' playoff hopes were fading away throughout these past two weeks due to a losing-skid of six games straight, but the Red Wings found relief with a dominating 7-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres, giving the fan base and organization a spark of hope moving forward.
The organization has several pending free-agents due for new contracts this off-season, and one of them decided to have a career-high performance to prove his worth with the team.
Patrick Kane's five-point night snaps Red Wings' losing streak
Longtime NHL veteran Patrick Kane had himself a night, recording two goals and three assists for a whopping five point finish.
The statement revealed that Kane is the first Detroit Red Wings player to record a five-point game in nearly six years.
"Kane (36 years, 113 days) became the fourth-oldest player in franchise history with a five-point game behind Brett Hull (37 years, 170 days on Jan. 26, 2002), Alex Delvecchio (37 years, 27 days on Dec. 31, 1968) and Brendan Shanahan (36 years, 324 days on Dec. 13, 2005). Kane recorded his fourth career contest with at least five points (also March 8, 2022, Jan. 20, 2019 & Jan. 9, 2018)."
With 31 points in his last 25 games, Kane, with three-Stanley Cups underneath his belt, looks to continue to lead the young Red Wings group to playoff contention.
