Top radio host Mike Valenti of "The Valenti and Rico Show" on Detroit's 97.1 The Ticket FM has all but officially declared that it's over for the Red Wings.

The Red Wings were dealt a brutal blow on Tuesday night in more ways than one, and it was painfully ironic.
Not only did Detroit lose their 1-0 lead in the final seconds of their game against the St. Louis Blues and lose 2-1 in OT, but the Montreal Canadiens tied their game against Florida with seconds remaining and won in OT.
Detroit was 3 points back of Montreal on Tuesday morning and could have come within a point if they'd beaten the Blues and the Cup champion Panthers beat the Canadiens. Instead, Detroit is now a full 4 points back.
Noted 97.1 WXYZ The Ticket host Mike Valenti of the popular afternoon-drive "Valenti and Rico Show" has all but officially declared the Red Wings playoff hopes as dead during this afternoon's broadcast.
A short sampling of some of what he had to say during the segment:
I actually spite them for winning games at this point, especially after that Pearl Jam debacle. Look, you had 70+ games to earn our trust. You had a pair of 7 game win streaks, you got a 4-5 game win streak in there, too. The fact that they are +1200 to make the playoffs - by the way, yeah, it's 4 points, but then let's open up the hood on that deal - there are 5 times between you and that spot!

Montreal stole a game last night against Florida; that's a high quality win! You had Columbus drop an 8-burger! The Rangers won the other night! This doesn't just involve the Red Wings doing something they haven't done much of since the 4 Nations, which is winning hockey games. It has to do with everyone collectively, like a bad marching band, not winning anything.

You have the most difficult schedule. And here's the worst part of last night - you goalie'd the Blues! You're normally the team that gets goalie'd! Talbot stood on his head starting a minute into the game, and you lost!
