Detroit Red Wings defenseman facing suspension for ugly cross-check on St. Louis Blues forward

Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry returned from injured reserve not too long ago. He has decided instead of contributing to the game in a positive way to commit a crime on the ice.

At 2:58 into the 1st-period of tonight's scoreless match between the Red Wings and St. Louis Blues, he cross-checked forward Dylan Holloway.

He'd receive a penalty for the cross-check and get put in the box. His TOI tonight in the first period is 5:21 as of when this was written.

Petry is a veteran defenseman who is in the twilight of his career and has been a polarizing force for many fans, who think he's just not good.

We'll be lucky if he doesn't end up getting a call from Toronto for that egregious check on Holloway, who has had a stellar year in the NHL as a 62-point forward in 75 games with the Blues.

While Petry has been in the top four in a blue line that has seen better years.

This season, Petry has played 37 games and scored only 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists) with the Red Wings.

Is the unspoken rule of washed defenseman everywhere to goon it up as soon as you're getting ready to pack it in? It must be.

While it could be wrong to say we miss Albert Johansson, we do. Maybe a suspension will give him another look in the NHL, while this goon can learn some humility.
