Mitch Marner reveals risk of safety in Toronto that likely made his decision to leave

Mitch Marner revealed that risks related to his and his family's safety played a role in his decision to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs in the offseason.
In spite of doing all he could to keep him on board, Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving couldn't convince Mitch Marner to stay: the star player ended up signing with the Vegas Golden Knights following a sign-and-trade.
The new Golden Knights forward opened up on the reasons behind his departure from Toronto in an interview on TSN.
Marner Left Toronto For Safety Reasons
The relationship between Leafs fans and Marner has been rocky over the years, but it reached a new level last year.
Here's what he stated in a new interview:
"My wife's father called me and said, 'I just want to let you know we've got people sending us screenshots of a guy posting your address online, saying that if people want to come pay us a visit and say their goodbyes in a 'quotation' way, here's the address.'
It was a little tough, obviously. I mean, we've kind of dealt with it for the last two years in a way. The market's very passionate - they love the team. I know it; I was born and raised there, and I've been a part of Leafs Nation for a long time.
But yeah, when your family's safety comes into question, especially having a new son, I don't think it's acceptable. You know, having full-time security at your house for two weeks after the playoffs just to make sure no one's coming by, and even just the safety concerns of trying to walk your dog and your child.
So, it was a little unfortunate. But, yeah, we all deal with this stuff. Sometimes it just happens."

Leafs fans clearly had an impact on Marner's decision. If they want a team who can win, they'll need to realize they're not helping by harassing players and their families.
