The Detroit Red Wings could steal free agent Max Pacioretty from the Maple Leafs, who are hopeful to sign the veteran forward; all Yzerman has to do is lean into the Michigan connection.
NHL Insider Nick Alberga gave us some insight into the Atlantic Division rivals' front office.
According to him, the team is hopeful they'll be able to re-sign free agent forward Max Pacioretty.
Last season, he made a total of $873K AAV and could be an affordable addition to the lineup, and a reliable depth forward.
«This year was very difficult for me, being away from my family, so I'm really excited just to get home and be with them, and talk to them about what's next in life,» Pacioretty said during his end-of-year media availability. «But in terms of playing, that's difficult to answer right now.
With the Maple Leafs, he scored a total of 13 points (5-8) in 37 games wearing the blue and white.
Now, the Wings could luck into a depth forward who, when healthy, is an excellent sniper, and could provide some offense where it's been lacking in the top nine.
Pacioretty's agent is Allan Walsh, who is co-host of Agent Provocateur with Maple Leafs fanboy Adam Wylde. Just imagine the kind of headlines it'd make if Yzerman could secure the veteran for 2025-26.
More than anything, family matters for Pacioretty, and the former Michigan Wolverine is looking for a team close to home:
While Max Pacioretty may be past his prime when it comes to playing in the NHL, you can't discount intangibles at times. He could provide leadership to younger players in the lineup in addition to being a depth scorer.
