Ovechkin could face discipline from NHL Department of Player Safety after controversial hit on a Canadien

The Washington Capitals delivered a dominating 5-2 defeat to the Montreal Canadiens in their sold-out Bell Centre arena on Sunday night, but the biggest loss comes with the injury of a forward.

Someone who has quite the rough past with concussions and head-related injuries, forward Jake Evans, was the victim of a controversial hit by Alex Ovechkin.

A 'disgusting' hit, fans stated with displeasure on social media.

The hit took place in the second period and resulted in a two-minute penalty being assessed to the 'Great Eight.'

Many, including NHL reporters Marc D'Amico and Stu Cowan believe that it should've been a five-minute major penalty, and their callout to the league may result in the play being reviewed for a possible form of further discipline.

This is just one of multiple controversial rulings by officials throughout the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and it sure won't be the last with how things are trending.

A clear mistake by officials to not hand out a 5-minute major in this situation, as if this were Tom Wilson throwing the hit he would have been ejected from the game.
