Today we celebrate the birthday of former Detroit Red Wing, and Stanley Cup Champion, who has been immortalized in the culture of Hockeytown, Brett Hull.

Brett wore the winged wheel in Detroit from 2001 to 2004 before he ended up finishing his career in a Coyotes jersey.
The Red Wings acquired Hull in the hopes they wouldn't have to rebuild, and would add extra firepower during free agency in order to stay in "win-now" mode.
They'd acquire Dominik Hasek, Luc Robitaille, and future HHOFer Brett Hull that offseason.
In order to do so, of course, their top stars would have to sacrifice some of their own cap space to build a Stanley Cup-winning team. Included in this team was rookie Pavel Datsyuk, who Hull considers "the sickest player I've ever seen".
«And lo and behold, this kid shows up at training camp. Pavel Datsyuk. They put me with him.«He doesn't speak English, but he is the sickest player I've ever seen in my life."

Brett Hull turns 61 today

Datsyuk and Hull, now 61, were part of a unique team for the Red Wings that'd defeat the Carolina Hurricanes for the Stanley Cup.
Hull would be a fixture on the line titled: 2 Kids and a Goat line, which consisted of him, Datsyuk, and rookie Boyd Devereaux.
The following season, the Red Wings would find a home for rookie and future Captain Henrik Zetterberg, replacing Devereaux.
Hull was a key piece in the Red Wings' Stanley Cup victory in 2001-02 and will be forever remembered as a positive force in Hockeytown history.
Happy Birthday, Golden Brett.
