Buffalo Sabres acquire disgruntled Detroit Red Wings prospect in surprise signing announcement
It has been revealed that Red Wings prospect Red Savage has signed with the Buffalo Sabres after refusing to sign a deal to keep him with Detroit.
The
Detroit Red Wings have a loss to announce today, and it's bad for the prospect pipeline.
Today forward,
Red Savage decided instead of signing in Motor City, he would sign in the cold climate of Buffalo, NY.
As GM Kevyn Adams apparently had the right pain points to hit, the forward joins a team not even on the cusp of playoff hopes.
Savage, a former 114th overall pick of the Detroit Red Wings, wasn't given an ELC by the Detroit Red Wings and mutually parted ways with the organization.
Former 114th Overall pick Red Savage Joins The Buffalo Sabres
Red Savage will be taking his talents to the Rochester Americans in the AHL, instead of finding a home in Detroit.
It seems as if he didn't earn a pro contract in the Red Wings' eyes, but the Sabres were able to give him a chance, albeit on a lower rung of hockey.
This season, the forward played 20 games for the MSU Spartans in the Big Ten and scored only 11 points (5-6), which was a significantly lower output than the year prior.
Where he'd play a total of 38 games and score 27 points (10-17), the forward split his collegiate career between Miami (Ohio) and the Michigan State Spartans.
While Yzerman appeared poised to give him a deal to stay in Detroit, it appears that it never happened; by way of circumstances or failure, we'll never know.
