The Detroit Red Wings' NHL trade deadline revealed a lot about their upcoming off-season, and it appears that these three players will be out the door and not retained by Steve Yzerman

Steve Yzerman was in a position to acquire elite-level talent at the years NHL trade deadline, but opted to not make any 'big acquisitions', and also not sell, signalling a big summer is upcoming in Detroit and multiple faces will be out the door.
Despite the Red Wings not acquiring high end talent to further their push for the playoffs, they did make a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks, which tells us who will be out the door first in Detroit this off-season.

Red Wings to part ways with 3 players after 2024-25 season

Alex Lyon has emerged as the odd-man out in the crease, following a statement from Steve Yzerman and Todd McLellan which confirmed that Cam Talbot and Petr Mrazek are deemed their No. 1 and No. 2 goaltending tandem.
Next season, Sebastian Cossa will be ready to make the jump to the NHL for his first full season in a Red Wings uniform, but it may be in a third-string role behind Talbot and Mrazek. Regardless, Lyon has been pushed out, and will ultimately be with a new organization at the start of the 2025-26 NHL season.
Lyon has earned a backup-goaltending role in various organizations over the past few years, and won't have too hard of a job finding a new home.
The Red Wings hoped for a lot out of veteran defenseman Jeff Petry when they acquired him before the start of last season, but sadly, he has fallen off and things have turned sour.
Sidelined due to injury, the Red Wings seem to have no problem moving forward without the aging defenseman, and it will be an easy departure from Petry after two disappointing seasons in Detroit.
Craig Smith was acquired by the Detroit Red Wings in their deadline deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, but unlike Mrazek, Smith is an upcoming unrestricted free agent and is projected to test free agency this off-season.
In hopes to land on a contending team, Smith should have no problem doing so, having 950 plus NHL games underneath his belt is quite the find for teams in need of depth down the middle.
As the 2024-25 seasons clock ticks down for Detroit, they prepare for a playoff push as well as the upcoming season.
