The Detroit Red Wings are linked with the New York Islanders in an intriguing trade proposal that sees Steve Yzerman acquire controversial defenseman Tony DeAngelo.

Heavy.com's trade proposal sees Erik Gustafsson being traded from the Red Wings alongside a 3rd-round pick for DeAngelo.
A draft pick for someone like DeAngelo is sadly too generous.
While this might be a meaningful proposal, the trade in itself is an overpay for DeAngelo, who spent the season prior in the KHL before Lou Lamoriello decided to exercise some institutional largess in order to bring him back to the NHL.

The defenseman would be a cheap addition at only a $1.75 million AAV cost. For a player who could add depth on the 2nd power-play unit, it might be a steal if he can contribute more than 40 points this season.
