The Detroit Red Wings have recently shown an immense amount of interest towards the Pittsburgh Penguins' Erik Karlsson, and new insight has unfolded, revealing that this Original Six team may just be one step closer to acquiring this star player.

Trade rumors have been surrounding defenseman, Erik Karlsson, for some time now, and the noise is seemingly getting louder.
As several teams have begun showing interest in this defenseman, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, and a recent announcement has revealed that some previous bad blood may get in the way of a transaction, leaving the Detroit Red Wings to be one step closer to acquiring him.

The Detroit Red Wings become one step closer to acquiring the Pittsburgh Penguins' Erik Karlsson due to previous altercation with another interested organization

The Toronto Maple Leafs have become an expected landing destination for Karlsson, yet, a recent announcement revealed previous bad blood involving the Pittsburgh Penguins' general manager Kyle Dubas, may get in the way of a transaction.
This bad blood is the fact that the current Penguins GM, Kyle Dubas, was fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs two years ago, and it seems as though this idea may make him hesitate to work with the organization.
A report by an NHL source was revealed this information on RG.org, and it seems pretty promising for the Detroit Red Wings.
Take a look:
«There's more than just hearsay when it comes to the Leafs and Erik Karlsson right now,» an NHL source told RG recently. «There's probably going to be salary retained, but the thought that there's some kind of bad blood between Dubas and the Leafs still that would prevent something like this is crazy. This is a business, and if there's enough interest from both teams and they figure out the cap hit and money, then that's all that matters.»

He continued:
«Look, Brendan Shanahan is gone, and the guy that replaced him wants and needs to take this team deep in the playoffs,» the source said. «This isn't about Dubas' history with the Leafs, it's about winning and business. That's why, as you reported, the Leafs are interested in a guy like [Dougie] Hamilton. They need that offense from the backend; they need that guy on the powerplay. Can they make the cap hit and cap space work? That's what matters here, and the Leafs gotta make up that offense with [Mitch] Marner gone.»

Although it is uncertain whether or not this bad blood will be enough for the Detroit Red Wings to squeeze in and acquire this defenseman, fans are extremely hopeful.
Do you think this bad blood will be enough for the Detroit Red Wings organization to be capable of acquiring the Pittsburgh Penguins' Erik Karlsson?
