Detroit Red Wings acquire gritty goal-scoring forward from Nashville Predators in intriguing trade proposal

With the Detroit Red Wings in an ongoing playoff drought, they need to refill the bucket with goals, and points. Those are going to have to come from elsewhere, as no one in the lineup has been capable of pushing the team to those heights.

In an interesting trade proposal, the Red Wings acquire Nashville Predators forward Michael Bunting in a swap for forward Jonatan Berggren.

For both players, this would be a fresh start. Bunting, a former 4th-round draft pick in 2014, would find a home on a competitive team in Detroit. While Berggren could get a fresh start on the rebuild of the Nashville Predators.

Last season, Bunting scored a total of 38 points (19-19) and, as a Maple Leaf, was once a 20+ goal scorer.

If Bunting could tap into the skills that saw him become a star player with the Maple Leafs, the Red Wings would skyrocket into contention. He'd easily slot in on the top six if he could find his groove again.

Bunting plays with a snarl and could add grit that is missing in the lineup since Christian Fischer's exit from Detroit.

Berggren, 25, could find a new role in Nashville, as he hasn't been able to crack the full-time lineup in Detroit, scoring only 24 points (12-12) in 75 games with the Red Wings.

Bunting would prove that Yzerman believes the team is in win-now mode while sacrificing Berggren so that he could find more playtime in Nashville and, as an RFA, would have control over his rights.
