Detroit Red Wings acquire Jason Robertson: A major proposal and Dallas isn't saying no

The Dallas Stars have been rumored to be shopping forward Jason Robertson in the days and weeks following their 2nd straight elimination in the WCF by the Edmonton Oilers.

One team who has been linked as a potential suitor for Robertson is the Detroit Red Wings, who are feeling the pressure to turn things around after having missed the postseason for the 9th straight year and the 6th in a row under GM Steve Yzerman.

A trade proposal from Bleacher Report: Open Ice on Instagram is a transaction the Stars, who are led by former Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill, would be hard pressed to reject.

The deal would see the Stars trade Robertson to the Red Wings and in return get 2023 1st round pick defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka, forward Jonatan Berggren, and a 1st round pick.

Nill has already instituted major changes for the Stars, who have now made 3 WCF appearances in a row, after their elimination by the Oilers.

He fired head coach Peter DeBoer while also trading forward Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken in a salary dump. He then re-signed veteran forward Matt Duchene to a new 4-year contract.

Robertson apparently doesn't fit into the long-term plans of the Stars any longer, and could represent a major boost for the Red Wings up front.

While he has only a year left on his current contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $7,750,000, Robertson had 80 points (35G, 45A) this season and is only 2 years removed from having scored 46 goals in 2022-23.

He also has roots in the area, as he was born in the nearby Detroit suburb of Northville, about 30 minutes from downtown.
