Two Detroit Red Wings prospects, Anton Johansson and Eddie Genborg, are set to clash in the SHL.

The Detroit Red Wings have an affinity for their Swedish prospects. Since Niklas Lidstrom established his dominance in the NHL, the team has found valuable additions from the country across the years.
And prospects Eddie Genborg and Anton Johansson aren't any different.
But, they're set to clash in the SHL, as Timra and Leksand are in a pitched battle for dominance.
Much like the current disfavor the Red Wings experience by NHL pundits, the SHL's Leksand has fallen in experts' eyes as they are projecting a finish at the bottom this year.
Johansson pushed back on the notion, with a decisive 3-2 victory over Timra and Eddie Genborg.
«We'll see if they change their minds after a few rounds because I definitely don't think we are (a basement-dwelling team),» Johansson told Swedish website Aftonbladet following Leksand's 3-2 win over Timra as the SHL season got underway Saturday.
Johansson would add some tension to the rivalry between the two prospects, as he notched the team's game-winning goal against Genborg and Timra.
Though it's arguable if high-sticking Anton Lander of Timra was the right choice, as he enflamed the team's bench with the action.
«It's always fun to score goals,» Johansson said. «Then it's mostly about the team winning.

«It's fun to be able to help the team.»

The 105th overall pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2022 NHL Draft would find himself in the box for two minutes after the infraction to think about what he did.

Eddie Genborg's presence on the ice for Timra

Eddie Genborg was originally a 44th overall pick by the Red Wings in the 2025 NHL Draft. He fought valiantly against Johansson and Leksand despite their 1-goal deficit.
The young forward would contribute an assist on a goal and would do his best to end the ongoing struggle that night.
Coach Timmy Samuelson would compliment Genborg's game, as he felt the maturity he showed on the ice for Timra was vital. Samuelson declared Genborg the best player on Timra that night.
«He is our best player,» Timra coach Tommy Samuelsson told Swedish website Expressen of Genborg. «I think his maturity in the game is impressive.

His willingness to get into the dirty areas on the ice and put in the hard work. His gritty play paid off, despite the loss.
We should expect a clash between the two players to be exciting, as the story between Genborg (Timra) and Johansson (Leksand) develops this season.
