Detroit Red Wings set to move on from 32-year old goaltender

The Red Wings are poised to move on from goaltender Alex Lyon, who was playing on an expiring contract and can become an unrestricted free agent.
All indications point toward the Detroit Red Wings moving on from goaltender Alex Lyon, who has played the last 2 years with the organization after joining them in 2023 from the Florida Panthers.
This year, he was playing on an expiring deal; with the Red Wings having brought Petr Mrazek at the Trade Deadline (he's under contract through 2026) along with Cameron Talbot also being under contract through next year, the writing appears on the wall for Lyon to move on.
Lyon has been the 3rd goaltender on NHL rosters essentially his entire career, something that he's used to by now.
It was difficult for a minute, but part of being a successful professional and a successful goalie is being able to get through mentally, things like that. I've been the third goalie on the roster for my whole career. It's just something that you got to deal with.
He seemed to recognize that his time with the Red Wings is likely all but officially over, but had nothing but good things to say about his time with the club.
Just going to have to see the way the winds blow and there's a lot of things that are kind of out of my control. But it's a great place to play and loved playing at LCA.
I'm happy. Got to be a full-time NHL player for two years and I would like to continue to be in the NHL. The only thing I can do is try to keep getting better and find ways to get more consistent. I wish I could have played better here and helped get us into the playoffs this year. Just have to move forward and just keep grinding.
Lyon went 14-9-1 with a 2.81 GAA, a .896 SV% and a shutout this year.
