Detroit Red Wings trading for Winnipeg Jets' Kyle Connor urged by NHL analyst
NHL Insider Frank Seravalli believes that Winnipeg Jets forward Kyle Connor could find a home in Michigan, with the Detroit Red Wings, as a pending free agent in 2026.
Not only does the insinuation of Frank Seravalli's make sense, but the Red Wings should be in pursuit of another Michigan-born player who could flip the team's fortunes.
Kyle Connor has been an impact player during his time in Winnipeg, and last season was no different. In 82 games with the Jets, he scored 97 points (41-56) and was a former 17th overall pick in 2015.
A loaded draft class. Connor is a Michigan product, from Shelby Township, MI, and could be sold on a return home if he signs in Detroit.
He'd be another meaningful addition to the lineup, missing the punch that Connor could add.
The forward has played 613 games in the NHL and scored 582 points (284-298).
Connor's $7.142 million AAV contract expires at the end of this season and could be subject to a bidding war for the forward. The Red Wings will have to remain steadfast if they expect to land a game-breaker like the Jets forward.
Speculation about his next contract continues unabated, as the
Winnipeg Free Press gave us an idea of what he could fetch:
With a rising salary cap and Connor's remarkably consistent levels of production, the stage is set for the Michigan product to become the first Jets player with an average annual value north of US$10 million.
The Detroit Red Wings will have to take this into account when they make either a trade or an offer to the pending free agent next July.
