Worrisome update on Alex Ovechkin's future in the NHL: Insider spills the details and he could be done
Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin's future in the league after his historic 44-goal season at the age of 39 is uncertain, and an NHL insider has just provided a worrisome update.
Rumors began swirling after Ovechkin ended up
scoring goal 895 this past season that he could ultimately end up retiring after this NHL season, being crowned as the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer.
Ovechkin's future in the NHL is up in the air
But according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Ovechkin's future in the NHL is as predictable as a loose cannon.
"I'd say be careful if you're putting any predictions on what Ovechkin will do next, I could see him continuing to play; go back and play in Russia; retiring; the world is his oyster; I am not going to be making any predictions."
- Frank Seravalli
Regardless of what
Ovechkin is considering to do next, he must play out the final year of his $9.5M AAV contract with the Washington Capitals, which he signed in the 2021-22 season.
Ovechkin is just three goals away from reaching the 900-goal mark, and with one more NHL season under his belt, he could very well surpass 940 in his career.
If he does decide to hang them up, he will arguably go down as the best goal scorer of all-time, and certainly of the current generation.
