Young Player Evan Armit Tragically Passes Away

The Worcester State University Athletic Department released the following statement, which included official comments from his head coach and the program director:
"Worcester, MA- It is with profound sadness that the Worcester State Athletic Department announces the passing of men's ice hockey student-athlete Evan Armit. Evan, a beloved son, brother, teammate, and friend, passed away on August 24, 2025, at the age of 23, following a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma.

«Evan was an incredible student-athlete and beloved teammate. He will be greatly missed by our entire campus community,» said Athletic Director Michael Mudd. «Our thoughts are with the Armit family at this difficult time."

«Evan embodied the very best qualities of a teammate and a friend-hardworking, humble, and selfless,» said Worcester State Head Coach Jay Punsky. «He carried himself with quiet strength and treated everyone with kindness, never losing sight of the importance of family and friendship. His joy was infectious, and his spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Though his time with us was far too brief, Evan leaves behind a legacy of heart, humility, and purpose.»

Services to celebrate Evan's life will be announced in the coming days.

Evan's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and in the communities that rallied around him with love and support.

Forever 11"

Evan was a second-year member of the Men's Ice Hockey team while pursuing studies in business administration.
He had a great playing career, playing with the Winnipeg Freeze in the MJHL and the Islanders Hockey Club in the USPHL.
The player was appreciated for his generosity and character. He is remembered as being a great leader and putting others before himself.
He fought cancer with courage and strength, inspiring people with his perseverance and dedication to supporting others.
In 2023-24, his last hockey season, he scored four points in 19 games with Worcester.
We'd like to offer our sincerest condolences to all those affected by this tragic loss.
