A new trade proposal sees the Detroit Red Wings acquiring a $30M goal scorer from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Few changes have been made in Detroit for a team that missed out on the playoffs for the ninth straight season. However, some of them were calculated moves.
Acquiring John Gibson to bolster the goaltending unit was a move that took some by surprise, especially considering the two young talented prospects at that position (Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine).
Where changes were deemed underwhelming was in the forward group and on the blue line. Yzerman couldn't hit a home run in free agency or on the trade market, ending up acquiring James van Riemsdyk and Mason Appleton.
But it's not too late, and a massive move could still happen before the start of the season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are another organization that could make some big trades in the coming months.
According to a new trade scenario, the Wings could acquire Rickard Rakell from the Pens in return for a first-round pick and two players.

Rakell, 32, has scored 519 points across 802 games with the Anaheim Ducks and Penguins. Last season, he tallied 70 points, including 35 goals-a career high.
Seeing Yzerman ship away two young players and a first-round pick to Pittsburgh for a veteran would be surprising, considering the trust he has in his process and his young players.
However, such an addition could help the team reach the next step of its development.
