Concerns are looming after an analyst made a bold claim about the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Red Wings' ongoing rebuild has now stretched into its tenth season, and patience in Detroit is beginning to run thin. While progress has been made, a new report suggests the organization's situation could mirror the one the Maple Leafs faced not too long ago.
Following a massive playoff drought, the Leafs won the draft lottery in 2015. They built an impressive core with Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and William Nylander.
Despite all that talent, the Leafs managed to win only two playoff rounds in the last 20 years, and have now lost Marner.

Analyst Compares Leafs and Wings Rebuilds

A new report suggested that the Wings could face the same issues in their rebuild.
On paper, Detroit's future looks promising. But the question is whether this group can eventually break through in the playoffs, or if they'll stall like Toronto.
The core in Detroit is talented: Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, and Marco Kasper are expected to bring success to the city and the franchise.
GM Steve Yzerman has been patient so far, but the pressure to accelerate the rebuild is real, as fans want to see the team back in the playoffs.
If the Red Wings truly want to avoid Toronto's fate, they'll need to keep doing things well instead of going too fast.
In 2025-26, it won't be easy for the Wings to make it. Both the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators had a taste of the playoffs last season and will do all they can to return next season, while the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs already seem to be a shoo-in. But the Wings could still cause a surprise.
However, trusting the prospects and the young core is crucial if Yzerman wants to see the team go all the way.
