While Connor McDavid has stated he intends on remaining with the Edmonton Oilers, there are issues prevalent in the lineup, one of which the Detroit Red Wings and Sebastian Cossa could solve: goaltending.

The Edmonton Oilers' struggles aren't a mystery to any hockey fan who pays attention to the news lately.
They failed to secure the Stanley Cup for a 2nd year in a row, losing to the Florida Panthers again, while Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard failed the team.
McDavid's statements hit close to home, as he didn't make his standpoint on remaining with the Oilers clear at the start of this offseason.
Which sounds like a challenge to GM Stan Bowman and President of Hockey Operations Jeff Jackson (his former agent).
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman believes the lack of quality goaltending is causing him to withhold his commitment to the team.
«There's something imperfect in his eyes, whether effective youth or strong enough goaltending or something else,» Friedman wrote for Sportsnet yesterday.

The Red Wings are one team that could help improve their prospects, as they've taken calls on prospect Sebastian Cossa, who's thought to be NHL-ready and could be the Oilers' future #1 goalie.
NHL Insider Cam Robinson reported that the Oilers have recently completed multiple calls involving trades with the Detroit Red Wings regarding Trey Augustine and Sebastian Cossa.
But for the Wings, Augustine is a non-starter.
Cossa, however, could be available.

The Edmonton Oilers Price for Sebastian Cossa revealed

For the Detroit Red Wings, in order to move Cossa, an NHL-ready goalie, the Oilers will have to dig deep and produce a 1st-round pick, according to their own Bob Stauffer:
What would the cost of Cossa be? Well if I was Detroit, I would want a first round pick back.

I mean, they drafted him with a mid-first-round pick. I would think that would be kind of what they're looking for in return.

- Bob Stauffer

For GM Stan Bowman and the Oilers, a mid-1st-round pick should be an easy trade, especially if they hope to maintain their window of contention. Cossa could end up being that guy for the Oilers.
For Bowman, to keep McDavid? A 1st-round pick should be immaterial.
